             What Owls Eat

When owls are hunting they watch for sudden movements. Owls can eat skunks, reptiles, rabbits, fish, other owls, gophers, insects, ducks, frogs, and snakes. Their favorite meal is the flying squirrel. If possible owls swallow their food whole. If their meal is big they rip off chunks of it. Their food passes down from their stomach. After they eat they make owl  pellets. When baby owls are already flying, their hunting skills are weak.  At first owls are too small to swallow their prey whole, but they can eat chopped meat.

Owls can have brown, grey, black, or white feathers. Some owls undersides are white like the Barn Owl. Owls can camouflage this helps them when danger is around because they stay hidden and predators canÕt see them. When a mother great grey owl is seen by a hawk she puffs up to look bigger.
