3rd graders recently participated in a live, online
February interview with famous children's author, Andrea
Davis Pinkney (whose books are published by Scholastic) with
other schools from around the country. Students read her
most recent book Duke Ellington:
The Piano Prince & His Orchestra, &
then participated in the interview & submitted questions
they generated after reading the book.

Students, along with Ms. Hunt & Mr. Etie, were
able to learn much about Mrs. Pinkney & her writing, as
well as learning about her husband, Brian, who helped them
win the Caldecott Award for this book with his amazing &
rich illustrations. Highland Park 3rd graders submitted 4
sets of questions, & all of them were posted by the
moderator & then answered by the author!!
